  • The artist's biography

    Fernando Costa
Fernando Costa was born in 1970, the son of Portuguese immigrants who moved to the
Dordogne, near Sarlat. After working as a steward from 1991 to 1993, then for the
leading chain of luxury hotels from 1994 to 1997, he left the hospitality world to devote
himself to art. He currently lives in Gignac, in the Lot department.
This trendy, nonconformist sculptor now enjoys worldwide success, sculpting signposting
into works of art. Somewhere between a sculptor and painter, this fan of César and
contemporary art enthusiast works with scrapped materials, which he brings to life again,
such as enamelled road signs, street signs, underground signs, construction signs, etc.
With these materials, he began by creating a line of designer furniture. He then
continued on the de-structuring path by creating paintings. He has exhibited throughout
France as well as in London, Brussels, Geneva, Madrid, New York and Beijing.
